A Garland Of flowers

As many kinds of garlands can be made from a heap of flowers, so many good works may be achieved by a mortal after birth. The scent of flowers does not travel against the wind, not even that of sandalwood, rose-bay or jasmine, but the fragrance of good people travels even against the wind.

A good person pervades everywhere. ~ The Buddha

The flower hall in the heart of Bangalore smells of Jasmine and Roses. Here you can find the men, for men only, are allowed to thread the exquisite  garlands. In these dusty half-lit halls of commerce, the smell of flowers hangs on the air, thick as perfume from a bottle. The men heads down, sit crossed leg, while threading their precious wares. A meditation in flowers.  In the half-light, a person like me with a camera, is a curious  sight. A welcomed one.  Here in this men’s world, I can at my heart’s content, click my camera all day long. I watch amazed as each flower is threaded onto a string, until the garland is completed. The lads hand  me roses, marigolds, jasmine, to keep as  a souvenir of my visit. I wish they would   last forever.      -Eve
